The Action Sports Observatory

A fast moving industry with almost no structured data behind it. We document it from the inside, alongside the people who build it.

An industry without instruments

Skateboarding, surfing, mountain biking, freeskiing, BMX and urban sports represent millions of participants, hundreds of brands, global circuits and an audience that reaches well beyond traditional sport. The data describing this industry stays scattered across federations, event organisers, brands and platforms, each with its own scope and granularity.

We build the missing layer. A shared reference of organisations, technologies and market movements, updated continuously and published on a fixed schedule.

Three formats

Reports

Annual and thematic publications, sourced and dated, freely downloadable. Mapping of the action sports SportTech ecosystem, segment analyses, usage studies. Every claim points to its source, every edition is citable.

Company database

The reference of organisations that make up the industry: brands, federations, event organisers, startups, institutions, media. Structured by discipline, geography and category of activity.

Available online, with extended access planned for the organisations that use it as a working tool.

Research assignments

Market studies, competitive analysis, project framing, vertical monitoring, due diligence on a company or a technology. We work with brands, federations, event organisers, public bodies and investors who need to understand this ground before committing resources.

How we work

Traceable sources

Every published figure carries its source and its date. Methodologies are described in the reports, scopes are explicit, and anything estimated is flagged as such.

Field first

We ride these sports and we work with their people daily. The categories we use come from actual practice, not from a taxonomy imported from professional sport.

Separation of roles

Our publications are free and independent from the work we invoice. Sponsors of an edition have no say over the content and no favourable treatment in the analysis. Their presence is stated plainly.

Continuous updates

The database lives all year round, the reports are dated snapshots of it.

Associate your brand with an edition

Each report is distributed across the European action sports ecosystem, brands, federations, event organisers, institutions and investors, and relayed by our InPulse newsletter. Editions stay available and cited well after their release.

Sponsoring an edition gives lasting visibility with an audience of decision makers in the sector, with no involvement in the content.

A question about the sector?

We answer journalists, students and researchers free of charge. For companies and institutions, study requests go through the form.
